Skechers

Founded in 1992 by Robert Greenberg, who previously co-founded LA Gear, Skechers initially focused on men’s street shoes and utility-style boots popular in the grunge era. The company quickly expanded to include women’s and children’s footwear, casual and athletic styles, and launched its performance sportswear line in 2011. Skechers went public in 1999 and became a Fortune 500 company, with a global presence in over 180 countries and more than 5,000 retail stores. In 2025, Skechers was acquired by private equity firm 3G Capital, transitioning to a privately held company.
